Unequal Angle

Unequal angles give you a long leg and a short leg in one section. That asymmetry is deliberately useful: the long leg provides the lever arm or the bolt gauge, while the short leg keeps the profile out of the way of whatever it fixes to.

Sizes are quoted long leg × short leg × thickness, for example 100×75×10. Because orientation changes the properties, each size page lists dimensions and weight per metre so the correct leg can be checked against the design.

StructuralSteel.ai holds 30 UEA sizes, cut to length, drilled and CE marked under BS EN 1090 EXC 3, with EN 10204 3.1 mill certificates on every order. Typically specified for shelf and ledger angles, roof and truss members, plant and equipment supports, reinforcement to existing steelwork and masonry support brackets.

Before you order

  • Which leg is the vertical one in the finished condition
  • Long leg, short leg and thickness — all three define the section
  • Bolt gauge and edge distance on the connected leg
  • Whether the short leg needs stiffening for a bearing load

FAQs

Unequal Angle (UEA),
answered.

Buying unequal angle (UEA) — sizes, grades, cutting, fabrication and worldwide delivery from StructuralSteel.ai.

  • When one direction needs more reach or more stiffness than the other — a masonry support bracket, a ledger angle, or any connection where you need a longer bolt gauge on one face but limited projection on the other. If both directions are equally loaded, an equal angle is simpler and usually cheaper.
