Middle East projects typically specify either the American suite (AISC 360 with AWS D1.1) or the European suite (Eurocode 3 with EN 1090-2), selected by the client or consultant rather than by a single national code. Local authority approvals, municipality requirements and third party inspection then sit on top of that chosen suite.

Country standards

United Arab Emirates

UAE projects are approved through the relevant municipality or free zone authority, most often Dubai Municipality or Abu Dhabi's DMT. Design is usually to AISC 360 or Eurocode 3 as nominated in the project specification, with fabricators asked to demonstrate ISO 9001, ISO 3834 and often AISC or EN 1090 certification plus third party inspection.

Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia applies the Saudi Building Code, which adopts American practice for structural steel including AISC 360 and AWS D1.1. Products entering the Kingdom are subject to SASO conformity requirements and the SABER platform, and large programmes add client specific fabrication and inspection specifications.

Qatar

Qatar's construction specification framework draws on the Qatar Construction Specification alongside British and European standards, with AISC based design also common on internationally procured projects. Fabricators are generally required to hold recognised quality and welding certification and to accept independent inspection.

GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council)

The GCC Standardization Organization publishes regional GSO standards that member states adopt nationally, which matters most for product conformity and marking. Structural design and fabrication requirements still follow the code suite named in the project specification rather than a single Gulf-wide structural code.
